SPHINXYNESS 10.2
A Chimeric Fragrance

Dark sensuality

THE INSPIRATION

Since its beginnings, Pierre Guillaume Paris has explored a singular form of beauty. A beauty that unsettles, sometimes disturbs, yet fascinates. With creations such as Cuir Venenum, Aomassaï and Felanilla, we have asserted an olfactory vision that goes against the grain: that of “the other beauty”, a beauty that is baroque, hybrid, sometimes animalic and often unexpected.

Sphinxyness is the direct descendant of this lineage. It is both its heir and its evolution.

Sphinxyness is a chimeric fragrance. It breathes night, dreams and mystery; a presence that is not immediately understood, yet never forgotten. Between the roasted swirls of black coffee and the deep woody gravity of ebony, it reveals a dark, unapologetic and fascinating sensuality.

THE FRAGRANCE

A ménage à trois: two forms of coffee infused with ebony wood

Egyptian Coffee

Brewed slowly in a small copper pot, it simmers gently, releasing dark, sweet swirls laced with saffron and cardamom. This ancestral ritual, poised between sweetness and fire, inspires a spicy, warm, vibrant and sensual opening. A top note like a heartbeat…

Kopi Luwak from Indonesia

In the humid highlands of the Indonesian archipelago, a rare coffee, treasured by connoisseurs, develops in the secrecy of the jungle. Its profile is surprising: no bitterness, but a soft, silky roundness with nuances of dark chocolate, crossed by a subtle animalic sensuality. This singular coffee accord, suspended between roasted softness and an animal whisper, becomes an olfactory enigma reinterpreted by the perfumer.

Macassar Ebony

A black wood with burnt-gold reflections, Macassar ebony seems to contain an entire forest within each of its fibres. Mysterious, smoky and resinous, it stirs the imagination like a forgotten incense. Freshly cut, Macassar ebony releases rich, profound nuances, recreated through essences of juniper, patchouli, cypress and guaiac wood. It forms the backbone of the fragrance: grounded, dark and untamed.

THE NAME

Sphinxyness originally began as a concept, part of an internal technical vocabulary born from discussions between the perfumer and his teams to describe a particular aesthetic shared by several creations of the House. It is a portmanteau, a hybrid linguistic creature, just like the fragrance it names. It brings together two seemingly opposing ideas which, when combined, create an irresistible tension. Today, Sphinxyness becomes the name of a fragrance.

Sphinx:

A mythological figure associated with strangeness and multiplicity, a symbol of mystery, hybridity and the indecipherable.

Sexyness:

An aura of seduction and immediate attraction, but here reinterpreted: not the smooth, conventional kind of sexiness, but the kind that fascinates precisely because it unsettles.

Sphinxyness:

At PG, it describes the attraction of what is impossible to classify, different and strangely beautiful.
